Is there a registration fee to take part?
It is completely free to take part in the March On virtual 96km challenge.

Absolutely not. People from all walks of life are welcome to take part. We have people who have done hardly any exercise at all right through the most seasoned athletes are taking part in March On. In fact, it is the perfect thing to help you start a healthy active lifestyle.
How do I log my activity?
Your profile page includes your personal distance tally so you can track your distance towards your target. This is a great way to keep your friends updated on your workouts and shows your donors you are “walking the walk”. You can log your kilometers in the following ways:
Automatically
If you track your workouts with Fitbit, MapMyFitness or Strava your distances will automatically add to your tally.
Follow these steps to track your KMs automatically:
1. Download the Fitbit, Strava or MapMyFitness app and set up your account
2. Log in to your March On with Soldier On account within your fundraising page
3. Under the heading ‘Connect your preferred Fitness app’, click your chosen app.
4. Follow the prompts to connect your account
5. When you next work out, select ‘start your workout’ in the app on your phone. Once you end your workout, save your workout and your distance will be published to the tally on your page the following day.
If you have synced your app already but it is not working, please log in and re-connect it.
When using Fitbit, you must ‘start’ an activity and save it. Your daily steps will not automatically add to your page. If you are having issues, try syncing through BOTH your Fitbit and the Fitbit app on your smartphone.
When using MapMyFitness, you must ‘start’ your workout, ‘stop’ your workout and then ‘SAVE’ your workout.
Your tally will be updated each day with the previous day’s distances.
Manually
Remember, you can manually add your kilometres to the tally in your My Fitness Activity tab of your profile after registering. This is a great option if you’re using a pedometer or a different method of tracking your distances.
Follow these steps to manually add your KMs:
1. Log in to your account and select ‘My Fitness Activity’
2. Under ‘Add activity’, enter the date and distance
3. The number of KMs will now appear on your fundraising page!
Even better – you can live stream your workouts and have your supporters watch where your adventures take you!
And remember - all of your kilometres will be reset to 0km on March 1, ready for your virtual journey to Kokoda to begin!
Who do I contact if I have problems with my fundraising page?

Teams
Can I ask people to join me by forming a team?
Absolutely! The more the merrier. You can ask friends and family to join you or even create teams at your workplace and have some friendly competition between different office departments.
How do I create a team?
Just click the ‘Sign Up’ button and when you get to ‘Create Your Page’, you will be asked if you’d like to create a team or join a team.
I've already registered, but now I want to create a team. Can I do this?
You sure can! Just log into your Dashboard and simply select Create A Team. Here you can give your team a catchy name, choose if you want to make it public or private, and invite others to join you!
People are having trouble joining my team. Why would this be happening?
When you created your team, you may opted for your team to be private, meaning people can only join your team if you have personally invited them by providing them with them a unique "invite" link. But this is an easy fix!
You can check this by logging into your dashboard, and under My Team, go to Team Page Settings. This is where you can change the setting to allow anyone to join your team, or choose to make it "invite only". Under My Team, then Team Members, you can also invite people to join.

How do I edit my activity?
If you need to update your activity, open your app and select the ‘Activity’ tab down the bottom.
Scroll down until you see the list of recent activity. Click on the three dots next to the entry you want to edit, then select the pen icon in the top right hand corner. This will allow you to edit.
Once you’ve made your changes, click ‘Save changes’.
How does the app track my fitness activity?
The March On app uses the inbuilt GPS system in your smartphone to track your fitness activity.
GPS estimates your location by using signals from a set of orbiting satellites and the signal from the GPS chip in your device, in the same way any of your maps apps on your phone does.
Why is the app reporting a different distance to the one I did?
This is rare, but occasionally issues may occur during an activity recording period. This can be caused by a few factors, including your phone's operating system attempting to close the app to preserve memory and battery life.
In these circumstances, the activity may report a different distance than you actually travelled, and unfortunately, we cannot ‘fill in’ the missing data.
It is also common that different devices can show slightly different data for the same activity. This is because each device’s GPS chip performs differently.
Issues typically fall into three categories:
- GPS drift: The GPS track generally follows the shape of the road/path but with much less precision.
- Lost GPS signal: If the GPS signal is lost and later re-acquired the pre- and post-signal-loss points will be connected with a straight line.
- GPS bounce: A 'jumpy' GPS signal can cause your activity to report more distance than you actually travelled since each 'zig' and 'zag' of your GPS track has to be accounted for with a straight line connecting them.
If this happens, you can always just go to 'Activity' and manually edit the activity there.
Scroll down until you see the list of recent activities. Click on the three dots next to the entry you want to edit, then select the pen icon in the top right hand corner. This will allow you to edit.
Once you’ve made your changes, click ‘Save changes’.
How do I optimise my phone settings for the app?
To ensure the best GPS ensure you do the following:
- Have a clear view to the sky. Obstructions between the phone and the sky can affect the signal.
- Ensure your device has data enabled.
- Give it time - allow time for the GPS receiver to tune into the satellites before starting an activity.
- Disable any battery saver settings including Power Saving Mode or Battery Management.
Also ensure that the app is granted the appropriate permissions. You can check this by taking the following steps:
iPhone
-
- Go to your settings.
- In the list of apps, select the 'March On app'.
- Click on 'Location.
- Select ‘Always’ when prompted.
Android
-
- Turn the phone off/on.
- Turn GPS off/on.
- Go to Settings > Apps > March On app > Permissions > Location.
- Select “Allow all the time”.
Consult dontkillmyapp.com for more information on how to optimise your Android phone settings
Can I connect my other fitness trackers to the app?
You can track your kms using the in-built fitness tracker, or if you prefer, you can connect to your Fitbit, Map My Fitness or Garmin account.
Connecting your existing app or device is easy. Simply open the March On app and follow these steps:
- Select your profile picture on the top right-hand corner of the screen.
- Scroll down to Activity and select ‘Apps and Devices’.
- Select your app and follow the prompts.
- You will be directed to log in via the website.
Why can’t I record an activity that is over 59 minutes?
I've synced my device, but the KMs are not appearing?
Sometimes there is a delay on your devise syncing with the March On App – it shouldn't usually be more than a couple of hours, but very rarely this delay can be up to a day.
If your activity hasn’t uploaded by the next day, please disconnect and reconnect your device.
Where can I find the QR code for my fundraising page?
To make it easier for your friends, family and colleagues to donate, they can scan a QR code directly from your app.
To find the QR code, open the app, click the 'Fundraising' tab at the bottom of the screen, and click the ‘QR code' button under your fundraising total.
How do I share my fundraising page via the app?
Select the 'Fundraising' icon on the bottom of the screen, then select the 'Share page' orange button.
This will give you the options to share your fundraising page across multiple platforms.
