2026 March On Challenge

March on challenge update

It’s been a little while since the last update. To be honest, a lot of the days have been very similar, and rather than spam everyone’s socials with the same post over and over, I thought I’d save you all from that and provide a bit of a bigger update instead. It’s been a real mix lately, a combination of treadmill sessions due to weather or time constraints, but still consistently getting the 6–7km done in an hour, sticking to the goal. We’ve now been out in just about every kind of weather: ☀️ 40+ degree hot, dry days 💦 30+ degrees with humidity pushing close to 90% (including tackling Mount Panorama in just over an hour) ❄️ And even down to 5 degrees this morning, with snow visible on the mountains around Canberra 🌧️ Plus the occasional rainy day thrown in for good measure Not complaining at all, it’s nothing compared to what the men on the Kokoda Trail endured all those years ago. I’ve also hit a huge milestone, raising over $3,500, and I’ve been genuinely overwhelmed by the support from family, friends, and even friends of friends. As of today, we’ve completed 173km of the 192km goal, with 5 days to go. That means we only need to average 3.8km per day to reach the goal, but I’ll be sticking to the plan and continuing to push for 6–7km a day. Every kilometre this month is about raising awareness that mental health struggles can affect anyone, whether in the Defence community, policing, or the broader community. One step at a time. 🐾 Thank you again to everyone supporting the challenge. Donations are still open if you’d like to support the cause.

Day seventeen!

Day Seventeen 🌧️ We have hit Kakoda, now it is time to turn around and walk back before the plane leaves! Sure, under much easier conditions. Wet weather put a bit of a dampener on Crush’s willingness to participate again today. Apparently marching through the rain wasn’t high on his list of favourite activities. And to be fair, no one really enjoys the smell of wet dog inside, no matter how clean he usually is. 🐕🌧️ So today’s kilometres were completed on the treadmill instead. A solid 7km knocked over, keeping the challenge moving forward despite the weather. Some days it’s fresh air and local paths, other days it’s fluorescent lights and a moving belt, but either way the kilometres still count. 👣 Total so far: 108km completed towards the 192km goal. Every kilometre this month is about raising awareness that mental health struggles can affect anyone, whether in the Defence community, policing, or the broader community. One step at a time. Thank you again to everyone supporting the challenge. Donations are still open if you’d like to support the cause. And as always, a huge thanks to my biggest supporter through my own journey, my wife Mel ❤️

Day sixteen

Day sixteen complete, of my March On challenge. Today Crush and I were back out around the local paths, putting together a solid 6.4km's in an hour, for a total now of 101km's, as we continue working toward the 192km goal for March. After his rest day yesterday, Crush did well today, especially with the weather building up for what looks like some much-needed rain. 🐾 Not every day needs to be a big adventure, sometimes it’s simply about getting out the door and keeping the momentum going. Every kilometre this month is about raising awareness that mental health struggles can affect anyone, whether in the Defence community, policing, or the broader community. One step at a time. Thank you again to everyone supporting the challenge. Donations are still open if you’d like to support the cause. https://www.marchonchallenge.org.au/fundraisers/peterdavis And as always, a huge thanks to my biggest supporter through my journey, my wife Mel ❤️.

Day fifteen

Day fifteen complete. Much like day two, today’s kilometres were completed on the treadmill at the gym. Sometimes weather, time, or the way the day unfolds means adapting the plan a little, but the important thing is still getting the kilometres done. Another solid walk, 6km, added to the tally as we continue chipping away at the 192km goal for March. Crush, however, was quite content after yesterday supervising from his matt rather than participating, which didn’t seem to bother him one bit. 🐾 Slowly but surely, the total keeps climbing. Every kilometre this month is about raising awareness that mental health struggles can affect anyone, whether in the Defence community, policing, or the broader community. One step at a time. Thank you again to everyone supporting the challenge. Donations are still open if you’d like to support the cause. And as always, a huge thanks to my biggest supporter through my journey, my wife Mel ❤️.

Day fourteen!

Day fourteen, completed. Today I struggled a bit with motivation for a number of internal reasons. One of those off days that reminds you your own journey isn’t over yet. It’s not the first time during these 14 days, but today it hit a little harder than usual. But with Crush by my side, his eagerness to please, the encouragement from friends and family, and thinking about the sacrifices people have made so Australians can live the way we do today, I pushed through that invisible barrier and got on with it. Another 6.6km completed, continuing to add to the total as we work toward the 192km goal for March. 🐾 Some days are easier than others, but the important thing is to keep moving forward. Here’s hoping for a better day tomorrow. At the end of the walk, I squeezed a hair cut in to improve my aerodynamics and strip some weight for the remainder of the month, with someone keepinga watchful eye on me. (picture) Every kilometre this month is about raising awareness that mental health struggles can affect anyone, whether in the Defence community, policing, or the broader community. One step at a time. Thank you again to everyone supporting the challenge. Day thirteen!

Friday the 13th! For those that are superstitious. Another 6.4km completed today, bringing the running total to 81km toward the 192km goal for March. Today’s route was much the same as yesterday, just done in reverse. Sometimes the little changes help make the more mundane days that bit easier and keep things feeling fresh. Crush was happy to be out and about again, especially with the cooler temperatures over the past few days, which definitely make the walks a little more comfortable for both of us. 🐾 The cooler weather didn't stop him from curling up for a good snore once we got back. (picture) Every kilometre this month is about raising awareness that mental health struggles can affect anyone, whether in the Defence community, policing, or the broader community. One step at a time. Thank you again to everyone supporting the challenge. Donations are still open if you’d like to support the cause. https://www.marchonchallenge.org.au/fundraisers/peterdavis/virtual26?utm_source=mobileapp And as always, a huge thanks to my biggest supporter through my own journey, my wife Mel ❤️

Day twelve!

Day twelve complete. A bit quieter today. Crush and I headed out around some local paths, covering 6.2km in about an hour, adding a few more kilometres to the running total as we continue toward the 192km goal for March. Crush was happy to be back on the journey… right up until he realised this wasn’t just a quick toilet walk followed by a game of fetch. Audible snoring could be heard from his bed for most of the evening afterwards. Even with the occasional day off, his stamina is about as good as a broken umbrella in the rain. But at least he tries, and he’s there for nearly every step of the way. 🐾 Every kilometre this month is about raising awareness that mental health struggles can affect anyone, whether in the Defence community, policing, or the broader community. One step at a time. Thank you again to everyone supporting the challenge. Donations are still open if you’d like to support the cause. And as always, a huge thanks to my biggest supporter through my own journey, my wife Mel ❤️.

Day eleven!

Day eleven complete. Much like day two, and a bit of a Groundhog Day moment, today’s walk was completed on the treadmill at the gym. Not due to inclement weather this time, but simply because the day was packed with multiple medical appointments and other commitments. Sometimes the location changes, but the goal stays the same, keep the kilometres ticking over. Today’s effort came in at 7km, bringing the running total to 69km completed as we continue working toward the 192km goal for March. Crush, however, got to put his feet up today while I handled the treadmill session. He didn’t seem to complain too much about that arrangement. 🐾 Slowly but surely, the total keeps climbing. Every kilometre this month is about raising awareness that mental health struggles can affect anyone, whether in the Defence community, policing, or the broader community. It also isn't just the person who suffers, but the strain it places on their family and community should not be ignored or taken for granted either. One step at a time. Thank you again to everyone supporting the challenge. Donations are still open if you’d like to support the cause. And as always, a huge thanks to my biggest supporter through my own journey, my wife Mel ❤️

Day ten!

Day 10 – March On Challenge Day ten complete. Today Crush and I returned to where the challenge first began, walking the same route as day one but in reverse, finishing up at the Australian War Memorial. Today’s walk came in at 6.6km, bringing the running total for the month to 62km completed as we continue chipping away at the 192km goal for March. It was a good reminder of how the month started, and how the kilometres slowly add up when you just keep showing up each day. Slowly but surely, the total keeps climbing. Every kilometre this month is about raising awareness that mental health struggles can affect anyone, whether in the Defence community, policing, or the broader community. One step at a time. 🐾 Thank you again to everyone supporting the challenge. Donations are still open if you’d like to support the cause. https://www.marchonchallenge.org.au/fundraisers/peterdavis/virtual26?utm_source=mobileapp And as always, a huge thanks to my biggest supporter through my own journey, my wife Mel ❤️

Day nine!

Day nine complete. Crush and I were back out around our local area again today, covering some of the same ground as yesterday but in reverse just to mix things up a little and reduce that Groundhog Day feeling. Today’s total came in at 5.8km, continuing to chip away at the 192km goal for the month. It wasn’t the most exciting route, but consistency is what keeps the kilometres adding up. Some days it’s about the scenery, other days it’s simply about getting out the door and putting the work in. 🐾 Slowly but surely, the kilometres keep adding up. Every kilometre this month is about raising awareness that mental health struggles can affect anyone — whether in the Defence community, policing, or the broader community.

Day eight!

Day eight complete. Much the same as yesterday, Crush and I were back out stomping the paths around our local area and suburb as we continue working toward the 192km goal for the month. Today’s total was 6.43km, keeping right on target with the aim most days to complete 6–7km in about an hour while steadily building toward the overall distance for March. Crush was happy as usual to get moving and set the a good pace. By the halfway point though, it was up to me yet again to keep the kilometres ticking over and give him plenty of encouragement to get home, before he crashed in my lap as 34kg paper weight (Picture). 🐾 Slowly but surely, the total keeps climbing, and with that, the target gets smaller. Every kilometre this month is about raising awareness that mental health struggles can affect anyone, whether in the Defence community, policing, or the broader community. One step at a time. Thank you again to everyone supporting the challenge. Donations are still open if you’d like to support the cause. https://www.marchonchallenge.org.au/fundraisers/peterdavis/virtual26?utm_source=mobileapp And as always, a huge thanks to my biggest supporter through my own journey, my wife Mel ❤️

Day seven!

After yesterday’s rest day, Crush and I were back stomping the paths today to keep moving toward the 192km goal for the month. The aim most days is to knock over 6–7km in about an hour, keeping a steady pace while continuing to build towards the overall distance for March. Screen shots of the data at the end of each walk are uploaded in my image library. Some days the motivation is high, other days it’s simply about discipline and turning up anyway. Today was about getting moving again and keeping the momentum going after the short break. Crush was happy to be back out and about, keeping me honest and making sure the kilometres were ticking over at the start. By the halfway point though, it was up to me to keep them ticking over. He’s a special dog and can do many things, but endurance isn’t exactly his specialty, He was definitely happy to be home after the stroll (Picture). 🐾 Slowly but surely, the total continues to climb. Every kilometre this month is about raising awareness that mental health struggles can affect anyone — whether in the Defence community, policing, or the broader community.

Day six!

Day six complete. Not much of an update today. After a big couple of days in Canberra and then Bathurst, Crush and I had a rest day as it was my son’s 4th birthday. In the last six days, we’ve reached 37km of our 192km goal for the month. If we’re going to reach that goal, though, we’ll need to be back stomping the paths tomorrow! 🐾 Every kilometre this month is about raising awareness that mental health struggles can affect anyone, whether in the Defence community, policing, or the broader community. One step at a time. Thank you again to everyone supporting the challenge. Donations are still open if you’d like to support the cause. https://www.marchonchallenge.org.au/fundraisers/peterdavis/virtual26?utm_source=mobileapp And as always, a huge thanks to my biggest supporter through this journey, my wife Mel ❤️

Day five!

Day five done, although a little different to the other days. Crush and I needed to be in Bathurst to complete our final Public Access Test, the last step for him to finish his national accreditation as a Guide, Hearing and Assistance Dog. It was a busy day under test conditions, spending around six hours working through a variety of real-world scenarios as part of the assessment. While we didn’t complete the usual 6–7km in a single hour session like my normal daily goal toward the 192km for March, we were still on our feet most of the day. By the end of the assessment, we had actually covered 9.54km all up. Crush was quite happy (Picture) to be in the car for the trip home. Importantly by the end of it, we passed with flying colours. While waiting in the carpark to begin the assessment, we were also greeted by a slithering brown snake, a reminder that you never quite know what the day will throw at you. 🐍 Every kilometre this month is about raising awareness that mental health struggles can affect anyone, whether in the Defence community, policing, or the broader community. One step at a time. 🐾 Thank you again to everyone supporting the challenge. Donations are still open if you’d like to support the cause. And as always, a huge thanks to my biggest supporter through my own journey, my wife Mel ❤️.

Day Four!

Day four of the March On Challenge complete. Today Crush and I took the walk to a pretty iconic location, a lap around the Bathurst racing circuit. We covered 6.2km around the track, plus a few extra metres back to the hotel, bringing today’s total to 7.1km. It was sunny but very humid (81%), which definitely made the hills feel a little steeper than usual ☀️💦 Crush needed a quick rest at the top, which I was more than happy to give him. I was hurting a bit too, but still had enough left in the tank to keep going. 🐾 Anyone who is a racing fan really needs to come here when a race isn’t on and walk the track. You get a completely different appreciation for the circuit when you feel the changes in gradient and elevation under your feet. We’re actually in Bathurst for an important reason, tomorrow Crush and I complete our final Public Access Test to hopefully get off our L-plates. A big step in the journey for both of us. Every kilometre this month is about raising awareness that mental health struggles can affect anyone, whether in the Defence community, policing, or the broader community. One step at a time. Thank you again to everyone supporting the challenge. Donations are still open if you’d like to support the cause. Also please share amongst your own family, friends and work colleagues. https://www.marchonchallenge.org.au/fundraisers/peterdavis And as always, a huge thanks to my biggest supporter through this journey, my wife Mel ❤️

Day three!

Day three done and dusted. With the inclement weather around 🌧️🌧️, it was a lot like ground hog day. Crush and I had to seek out an alternative yet again to keep chipping away at the 192km goal for the month. Not wanting a drenched pooch and the smell this brings through the house wasn’t a great option, so it was another episode of a good podcast and chipped 6.8km of the goal in one hour on the treadmill. Crush did it hard again, but he was at least with me in support. 🐾💤 Fingers crossed for some better weather tomorrow and a chnage of scenery. Every kilometre this month is about raising awareness that mental health struggles can affect anyone, whether in the Defence community, policing, or the broader community. One step at a time. 🐾 Thank you again to everyone supporting the challenge. Donations are still open if you’d like to support the cause. https://www.marchonchallenge.org.au/fundraisers/peterdavis And as always, a huge thanks to my biggest supporter through my own journey, and this journey my wife Mel ❤️

Day two!

Day two done and dusted. With the inclement weather around 🌧️🌧️, Crush and I had to seek out an alternative option today to keep chipping away at the 192km goal for the month. As clean as he is, the smell of wet dog through the house wasn’t a great option, so it was a good podcast and 6.5km in one hour on the treadmill instead. Crush looked in much better shape than I did at the end of today’s leg (see picture). No prizes for guessing why… 🐾💤 slept on his mat.

Day one!

Today Crush and I kicked off my March On challenge, aiming to complete 192km this month at an average pace of 6km/h. We started at the Australian War Memorial, walked down ANZAC Parade, and completed a Canberra favourite, the bridge-to-bridge loop around Lake Burley Griffin. We finished at the National Police Memorial, a reminder that both my green Defence family and blue Police family face many of the same mental health battles. But the reality is mental illness does not discriminate, it will impact everyone at some point, either directly or indirectly. Day 1 total: 6.5km ✅ Crush and I have earned a well-deserved rest 🐾 If you can, please consider supporting the cause by donating. Every bit helps. And most importantly, thank you to everyone supporting me, especially my biggest supporter through my own multi-year journey, my wife Mel ❤️

Support my challenge to prevent veteran suicide and save lives

Right now in Australia, at 42%, suicide is the leading cause of death for ex-serving males aged under 30 years old.

So, this March, I am walking to support Soldier On's mental health services and programs to help prevent veteran suicide and save lives.

It would mean so much to me if you donated to support my challenge so that we can show veterans and their families that they are not alone... we stand strong with them.

Together, let's help our heroes march on.

Thanks so much for your support.

So far, I have helped provide:
