Support my challenge to prevent veteran suicide and save lives
Right now in Australia, at 42%, suicide is the leading cause of death for ex-serving males aged under 30 years old.
So, this March, I am walking to support Soldier On's mental health services and programs to help prevent veteran suicide and save lives.
It would mean so much to me if you donated to support my challenge so that we can show veterans and their families that they are not alone... we stand strong with them.
Together, let's help our heroes march on.
Thanks so much for your support.
So far, I have helped provide:

364
peer support
sessions

218
employment
support

19
psychology
sessions
...to support the mental health of our brave veterans to help them march on.

Mental Health is a silent epidemic that plagues our veterans - the alarming rate of suicide among those who have selflessly served our nation. It is a harsh reality that veterans are more at risk of suicide than other members of the community shows just how much support is needed. Over the years, there has been a shift in societal attitudes towards veterans and their families, with a growing recognition of the struggles and sacrifices they have endured. Influential leaders such as Scotty are now stepping up to shine a light on the mental health challenges faced by soldiers, including PTSD, depression, anxiety, and substance abuse resulting from their service experiences, whether war like or not. Despite the progress, many soldiers still hesitate to seek help for their mental health issues, shaped by stigma, fear of repercussions, and misconceptions about weakness. These create barriers to accessing care for individuals or their families, and many will struggle with a smile on their face. Fortunately, there are leaders like Scott who are creating a new approach, developing a supportive environment where seeking mental health assistance is seen as a sign of strength rather than weakness. By breaking away from outdated leadership styles and embracing updated strategies, these leaders are empowering soldiers to thrive both on operations and in their transition back to civilian life. By spreading awareness, offering assistance, and being advocates for positive change, we can make a difference in the lives of those who have served our country, and possibly those members can positively contribute back towards their communities. Beyond the individual level, the military community itself can serve as a powerful force for good. Veterans with shared experiences can provide invaluable mentorship and support to address mental health challenges, creating a network of strength and camaraderie within our communities.
