2026 March On Challenge

A slow doggy stroll

I haven’t been sleeping that well, Fletcher has had an upset stomach and been in and out all night. We still had to do something today so after boxing up a small concreting job we drove to the beach for a leisurely walk and ball chase. I put 40 minutes for our 4.4km of meandering but it may have been linger as I couldn’t be bothered starting and stopping the app while Fletcher chased the ball and other dogs.

Rest day

A very gentle 2.5km today as the legs were a little stiff and the feet a little sore. Aren’t we lucky we aren’t actually humping a .303 or Bren, ammo and rations. My day it was SLR, M60 or AR (later in the RAAF an F1 SMG) and it was hard but easy, the trappings of youth have gone. March on everyone 🍺

A hard couple of days

Some days it is a struggle to get out of bed, yesterday and today were a couple of those days! yesterday I missed my walk because I had to rush Dad to hospital, he is still going well at 93 but things are wearing out. To see the man I admire most in the world struggling makes me struggle, but also pushes me to improve my own health. my mental health is better when I walk, I have to avoid skipping a day as then I beat myself up over it. lucky for me my dog sets the pace and keeps me going. At 61 my legs ache, my hands feel hot (what’s that about 🤦‍♂️) and my feet hurt. But that reminds me of being alive, what’s the saying “pain is weakness leaving the body”. Anyway just a little ramble. Soldier On everyone.

First stretch

3.5km return to the Squeaking Point Boat ramp via Shannon Drive and the coastal walk.

Support my challenge to prevent veteran suicide and save lives

Right now in Australia, at 42%, suicide is the leading cause of death for ex-serving males aged under 30 years old.

So, this March, I am walking to support Soldier On's mental health services and programs to help prevent veteran suicide and save lives.

It would mean so much to me if you donated to support my challenge so that we can show veterans and their families that they are not alone... we stand strong with them.

Together, let's help our heroes march on.

Thanks so much for your support.

So far, I have helped provide:

35

peer support
sessions

33

employment
support

2

sessions

...to support the mental health of our brave veterans to help them march on.
