2026 March On Challenge

Fri, day 6

Today I started my walk from a clinic in Werribee, where my wife Jo, was having a procedure, which would take a couple of hours. So I trekked into Werribee 'main street', stopped at the Blood Bank to ascertain when I can return to donating....6 months, holy moly. Stopped for a GF Thai meal, then made my way back to the clinic...6.5k done. 6 days down, 38.2km ✔️

Good morning, its day 5

A lovely time to start the walking day, is 7am, and get another easy 5.5k done with this damn sling (only another 6 weeks to go). I'll probably get a few more K's done this arvo with a small commute, which will keep me ahead of the 6.2km average to achieve 192km in 31 days. Bruising in my bicep, shoulder & upper back is still playing havoc with my sleep.

Day 3's notes

A cooler morning to trek around my local streets, only 5.7km this morning, a little behind the daily average I need to hit my 192, but I may stroll a k or two later. Damn I need to find my headphones.

Day 2 - humid in melbourne

Gee wearing a non breathable sling is fun.... (not)! It's like having an electric blanket across my chest & stomach whilst walking. Included my walk meeting son number 2 for brunch, then a short walk together, then parted our separate ways to return home. I added a small detour to ensure I went over 5k this morning. Planning a short commute walk to the train station, then to the aths track, should be another 2-2.5k.

The first walk

Shoulder rotator cuff surgery on Monday 23 Feb, 8 anchor points into bone to secure two tendons. Lots of pain, discomfort and colourful bruising, and I'm wearing a non breathable sling for 6-8 weeks, but I can walk & intend to continue with my planned 192km which is the length of the Kokoda Track, and back. Today was a slow 4.5k walk at the You Yangs in high humidity.

Support my challenge to prevent veteran suicide and save lives

Right now in Australia, at 42%, suicide is the leading cause of death for ex-serving males aged under 30 years old.

So, this March, I am walking to support Soldier On's mental health services and programs to help prevent veteran suicide and save lives.

It would mean so much to me if you donated to support my challenge so that we can show veterans and their families that they are not alone... we stand strong with them.

Together, let's help our heroes march on.

Thanks so much for your support.

So far, I have helped provide:

76

peer support
sessions

72

...to support the mental health of our brave veterans to help them march on.

My Tribute Post

Stu Macaulay

Growing up as an Army brat, with my dad serving as a 'nasho', and continuing to serve full-time until the mid 80s. I joined the Army in '84 & discharged at the end of 2004, and I've been working as a Defence Public Servant from early 2005 to the present day. I hope that the money that I can gain through my friendship groups will benefit many ex & serving members & their families.
