2026 March On Challenge

Day 12 - walk #1 having a moment to reflect and smile.

As I started walking this morning, I noticed a magpie sitting on a fence with the wind at its face. As I approached to get a photo it just sat there and watched me, not flying away. It took me back to my Uncle Rick who passed away Sat morning. Uncle Rick wanted to live long enough to see the Saints defeat the Magpies in the first round of the AFL; he is a one eyed Saints supporter. Well those that follow AFL would know that didn’t happen. So I had a chuckle and thought, maybe Uncle Rick has come back, in his second life, as a Magpie and wanted me to realise he is not happy about it. That one moment put a smile on my face. Never forget to take moments during your busy day to pause and smile at the little things. xx

Day 9 - walking the dog to find a coffee shop.

After our long hike yesterday, today we decided to go grab a coffee and walk the dog. ‘Rookie Error’, we should have checked what coffee shops were open on a public holiday here in Victoria. Needless to say we found one and continued on our way. Today it was about getting some Vitamin D and enjoying each others company before the week kicks off again.

Day 8 - up for the challenge

Today I wanted to calm the mind and the only way to do that is to walk, so walk I have. Today I did 3 walks that totalled 15.6km. Life becomes sad and complicated sometimes and you need to bring it back to basics and just relax and go with what the day brings.

Day 7 - uncle rick passed away (lest we forget)

Today was a day of rest, as we farewelled the Jeffrey Family Patriarch,Richard John James Jeffrey OAM. He was stubborn, loyal, fiercely protective, and loving, in his own way. A fisherman, with the hard nosed attitude of an Infantry RSM and my Dad’s best mate. We will miss you dearly. Rest in Peace Digger. Lest We Forget

Day 3 - time poor, but marching on

So today my walk was a little different. After being out all day, visiting someone very dear to me, who is a Veteran in Palliative Care, I had a small window to walk and ‘remember’. It was not the same as the day prior; serene landscape and ‘mindfulness’ conditions. Today, I went out with the purpose of walking as far as I could in the small amount of time I had. But…all those that know me well, would know my brain never stops. I was still thinking of the sacrifices both physically and mentally that veterans make, nearly everyday, to defend our freedom. I know that even if I raise a small amount of awareness to their plight, by walking these 96km in March, that is a win in my eyes. x

Day 2 - wilson’s botanic gardens

I have focused a lot on MINDFULLNESS over the years, whilst navigating my mental health journey. To set the scene, today was a bleak, rainy, overcast morning, but I looked at it with a different perspective. I found myself pacing peacefully through the Botanic Gardens. The Crows were singing in the trees, the Rosellas were having races in the sky, and the Rabbits were feeding on the grass. It was mindfulness at its best, and a great way to take time thinking about those that have lost their fight due you mental health and those, like me, that work every day to try to beat their demons.

Day 1 - my ‘march on’ dedication

Today I dedicate my first walk and my ‘March On’, to my uncle, WO1 Richard John James Jeffrey OAM, and my gorgeous Dad, PTE Bruce Raymond Jeffrey OAM. Both brothers served their country with pride and came home with scars of war that you could not see, but were felt deeply by those that loved them. I love you both and please know that you were my inspiration to start my ADF journey over 30 years ago. xx

Support my challenge to prevent veteran suicide and save lives

Right now in Australia, at 42%, suicide is the leading cause of death for ex-serving males aged under 30 years old.

So, this March, I am walking to support Soldier On's mental health services and programs to help prevent veteran suicide and save lives.

It would mean so much to me if you donated to support my challenge so that we can show veterans and their families that they are not alone... we stand strong with them.

Together, let's help our heroes march on.

Thanks so much for your support.

So far, I have helped provide:

My Tribute Post

Wendy Jeffrey

I wanted to dedicate my ‘March for Mental Health’, to 2 special people. My uncle WO1 Richard John James Jeffrey OAM and my gorgeous dad, PTE Bruce Raymond Jeffrey OAM. Both men served their country with distinction and pride and came back from war with scars that were unseen, but felt deeply by those who loved them. I love you both and am so proud to call you family. X
